In an effort to boost early childhood education in Fiji, Early Lingo and The Wakaya Charitable Trust provided English language learning kits to schoolchildren on Wakaya and Toki in Levuka this month.

The Wakaya Group chief operating officer Meliki Tuinamuana said Early Lingo was an award-winning DVD series designed to teach young children the basic foundations of English and other languages through total immersion and age-appropriate adventure.

Early Lingo is partnering with The Wakaya Charitable Trust to provide English language learning kits to schoolchildren in Fiji.

The effort would test-launch by providing students under the age of 12 with specialised learning materials to be used during the third school term this month.

“The intention is to expand the initiative to other schools in Fiji if the Ministry of Education gives the approval after the program has been tested this term.”

She said Early Lingo founder Caryn Antonini announced the joint effort while launching the program on Wakaya Island in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and stakeholders.

“In this modern age, our children will inherit a world where people and cultures interact more than ever before. This makes it all the more important for all children to be able to communicate in as many ways as possible,” Ms Antonini said.

“Our goal is ultimately to give as many children as possible the tools they need for the future to succeed in the global marketplace. We are thrilled to begin with the children of Fiji with the support of The Wakaya Charitable Trust.”

The Trust was established by FIJI Water founder and Wakaya Island owner David Gilmour.
